A final power wash before delivery home from the paint shop left some hard water deposits on the flat areas on the hood and fenders. Any one have any good ideas on how to safely remove these hard water deposits without hurting the ss urethane paint? What do you guys use for cleaning? Any help appreciated. Chad (IA)

CNKS has the right idea. Use a fine POLISH then 3M hand glaze or try just the hand glaze. For anyone else reading this that hasn't painted theirs yet ,seriously consider using the top of the line "true poly-urethane clears" such as Imron or better yet PPG's equivilant. Cost is high but you can wash off baked on bird crap and never see a mark. I did my '66 GTO with PPG's version and it is tough as nails. It can be color sanded and buffed just like any others. For an outside kept tractor it is virtually care free.

Used a mild cleaner and removed most spots, still a few light outlines on hood and fender tops. Will use polish next and more pressure. Also have what looks like a slight overspray on one of the fenders around the canopy post (which is odd since fenders were painted taken off) and am hopin a little more rubbing will address that.

I am by no means a paint expert, but as an auto enthusiast, my first thought was a mild vinegar solution.... so I went looking on the web for more on water spots... Here is what I found which also suggests vinegar (Link below, about halfway down the page).... of course, you should first try it in an inconspicuous place ... but my thought is that it should be much better than any of the products that are abrasive or contain any thing that can soften the paint.

[By the way, my experience is that water spots are not nearly as big a deal as bird droppings... They will destroy new paint overnight... ]

Vinegar is acetic (sp?) acid, a weak acid, but an acid none the less -- I would not try that on new paint.

Use a polish, not a wax, and rub gently. Urethane will scratch easily. There are other products intended for compounding, but unless you have a lot of paint defects, you will probably do more harm than good. Use a mild abrasive ONLY if the polish does not do the job. The power wash they did on new paint was just plain stupid.
