Any thoughts on why gray was such a popular color on early tractors? The most popular car (Model T)
was black for varios reasons. Why was gray better for tractors?

I have heard that some Fergusons used British Navy surplus paint in the late 40"s-early 50"s. Not sure why Henry would have been doing it in 1939.

The information about the reason why they switched to a lighter gray was from the head engineer on the tractors at the time. His name is Harold Brock.

Well take this with the appropriate grain of salt, but someone on the 8N forum wanted to know why the N changed from dark gray to a lighter gray, and someone answered that Henry Ford wanted a color that wouldn't show bird poops up as much. Sounds like an old wives' tale to me, but who knows? I have no idea how you'd research this to find out if it's true or not.
