I'am trying to decide which air supply respirator to buy. I would like to use one system for abrassive blasting, and painting. Anyone know the pros and cons of the vane type pump system. Also what is the difference in the hobby air and the pro air, with the pro air being NIOSH approved.

Hobby Air is adequate, I really don't know the difference between types. If it is positive pressure, it will work. I use the tyvec hood with my Hobby Air, paint or sandblasting, and use replaceable tearoffs. I have two hoods and use the older one for blasting. I have a small 80 lb or so blaster, and have a 3 ft extension between the control lever and the nozzle. That keeps my hood out of the line of fire -- works fine. I have heard that the Hobby Air hose does not meet NIOSH specs -- it is a heavy hose, appears that it will last forever. Don't know the other differences, Pro Air is a different design -- Hobby Air is plenty safe.

I too have the hobby air system. Works well. Keeps you cool with fresh air on the noggin.

I mounted mine outside the heated portion of the shop and used 1 1/2" pvc tube as a pass thru. Added screw on caps on both sides to keep the heat in the shop in the winter when not in use.

The link is for the place I got mine. Fast ship and lowest price I found. Please update if you have a cheaper source!
