I've read discussions about how to properly degrease a tractor prior to paining. Some have suggested cheap oven cleaner for the initial degreasing. I plan to degrease and power-wash the tractor well before taking into the shop to do final cleanup and paint. The question is, will the oven cleaner take off old paint? It will be a month or two between degreasing and actually getting to paint it. Just don't want to have bare metal rust in the mean-time. Suggestions?
Thanks
DJL

You won't get it absolutely clean just by pressure washing. To do that it has to be disassembled first, which makes it inoperable. Without disassembly you will find grease and dirt in every nook and crannie after you think you have it clean. Oven cleaner will remove part of the paint, the bare areas will rust. Better to wait until you are ready to move it in before doing anything.

A friend of mine used oven cleaner to strip the paint off a gocart. You can use Gunk spray degreaser its not completly safe for paint but won't strip like oven cleaner.
