I painted my tractor several years ago with John Deere paint. I've been thinking about repainting it and I would like to use Dupounts Centari. Would it be safe to use it over the JD paint without striping or primer? THANKS

Unfortunately, Centari is going away. We have already sent all of our toners back to DuPont. DuPont has the Nason line which allows for 7 different qualities of paint off one mixing bank. The Nason Ful-Cryl II is a very nice replacement for Centari wiht a great shine and excellent hold out. Give it a try!

Hey FRANK S I am a Centari fan and would like to know the correct paint codes for John Deere green and yellow.

Both the Classic Green and the new stuff.

Thanks

Centari is not on the chopping block yet, alot of fleets still use it, UPS uses it for all the big brown trucks, I think as for the DIY guy it does not see a whole lot of activity but the fleets who mainly buy direct do still buy enough to keep it around

Hi,

Centari is a very good choice, IMO. I doubt very much that you would have a problem as long as you rough the surface up with something like a 400 grit scratch or with a Scotchbrite Handpad. That's assuming that the existing paint is sound and tightly adhering. You should be aware, if you are not already, that Centari is available in three different field mixes in the same color formula number. There is 1) a conventional 1K acrylic enamel w/o isos, 2) a conventional 2K acrylic enamel with isos (hardener) and 3) an Ultra Performance Pak (with isos) acrylic urethane. I've used both 2) and 3) in the past and like both. I think 3) is probably the best of 'em. You will need to know which mix you are going to use beforehand as the field ingredients (both reducers and hardeners) you need to buy are different. The only caution I would add is that I have no idea what the future for Centari is. It's fairly pricey for what it is and it may soon go the way of Delstar, PPG's competitive high end (oxymoron nowadays) acrylic enamel - costly, hard to find and on it's way to the dust bin of history. If Frank S reads this, he may wish to comment since he's a DuPont factory rep.
