Just bought a couple of factory take off tires with quite a lot of over spray. What should I use to remove the paint.
Thanks
R.J.

laquer thinner has always worked well for me along with some elbow grease. But the result is well worth the effort. Old and weathered paint takes longer to get off. I am a stickler for not having paint on tires. It's my pet peeve. It also shows an attention to detail or the opposite. I am humored when I see a tractor for sale on ebay "parade ready" with paint on the tires. RIGHT!

depending on the condition of the tire you could paint them with tire paint from MIller Tire the stuff is supposed to work great. It is also cheap.

The way you worded your ? I assume they are dismounted. The two quickest and easiest would be automotive grade or aircraft grade paint stripper or sand blast them. Either way is simple, quick and won't hurt the tires.

I use lacquer thinner and stay away from the painted rim if the tires are mounted. I have also used a hand held wire brush. When I paint rims, I mount the tires and air them up. But I don't put enough air in them to seat the beads. The I take CHEAP electrical tape ( .49 cents a roll at menards ) stick it to the tire next to the rim. Go around 2 or 3 times so that you have about a 1 1/2 wide tape strip on the tire. Then I paint the rim. When it is dry I take the lacquer thinner and wipe off the over spray and peel off the tape. Air up the tires and go.
