The restoration has started and repainting begun.
This will not be a true 100% restoration but we are trying to keep it reasonably true.
Thanks for the colour info Rod. I think we have a fair match to the samples you sent.
If you check out our website we have put some pics up.Click on "Engines", then Allis Chalmers Restoration.
Having difficulty identifying model. Tractor No "appears" to be ECCS 40. Not in serial number list that I can see.
Any ideas most welcome.

I suggest you buy a copy of Guy Fay's book "Original Allis-Chalmers 1933-1957" He has information from Allis's company archives on paint schemes, ect...

Hi Brianne,

All AC tractors that I am aware of prior to about 1960 were persian orange - the early version. There are actually two different variations on the shade of persian orange. The early version was used prior to about 1960 and the later, more reddish version was used after that time. The early version is a duller, brownish/yellowish orange - looking a lot like the orange shade of pumpkins. The closest color that I have seen to match that is code #60080 from PPG and YS074 from DuPont. You can see a visual comparison of the two different persian oranges from PPG here. I don't know what's available to you down under. Most parts were painted orange but I cannot advise other particular details as I am not into true "historical" reproductions. You can try to get better info in the AC forum on this site. You will need to identify exactly which AC model as I am sure there are differences. One of the areas where there is considerable disagreement is in the color of the rear rims - orange vs silver or galvanized. It is my understanding that the earlier years favored orange and the later years favored silver/galvanized. You can also get some better informed opinion here for the B, C and CA if one of them that happens to be your model.

Hi Rod
Many thanks for the prompt reply.
This info is most helpful to us...we are not showing this tractor, only want to smarten it up a little.
By the way, the links you provided are great but could not progress from the "Cosmetic" link from the book to other pages of the book. Any ideas why?
It comes up with a "Page no longer available" message.
Brian

Brian,

The links in the Table of Contents do not work. However, if you manually change the page numbers in the address bar of your browser, you can navigate to each chapter. For instance, first find the chapter you are interested in from the Table of Contents page. Then go back to the chapter page you were viewing (if you left it to view the TOC) and change just the page number in the address. For example, if you were viewing chapter 8 (which is page 10 in the address) and you wanted to go to chapter 6, you would manually change the 10 to an 8. You then are directed to chapter 6. You can navigate to other chapters in a similar fashion. It's a nice little book and is also available for sale in hard copy from this site - see here.
