I went to Napa yesterday and ordered Epoxy primer ,high build sandable primer, and acrylic enamel paint. My project consists of sanded paint, bondo, and wire wheeled bare metal. Am I O.K. with one coat epoxy followed by a few coats of higf build primer, followed by Acrylic enamel? any suggestions appreciated. TIA

I assume the wire wheeled bare metal is cast. In that case you do not need any primer but epoxy over the cast, as it is not possible, or IMO, desirable to cover the "defects" in cast with high build primer. Use that over the epoxy on the sheet metal, sand it smooth and repeat the process until you are satisfied with the surface. This assumes that you do not have supplied air (see the rants below). With supplied air you can use a urethane surfacer instead of the high build primer, and either add hardener to the acrylic enamel or return it (if they will take it back) and use acrylic urethane. As to the cast, be sure to clean it good with wax and grease remover (you can use a household water based cleaner first), as the wire wheeled cast is very dirty. Best if you have access to a high pressure hot water pressure washer or steam cleaner, I don't, so cleaning cast takes me a while. Use the wax and grease remover on the sheet metal too, followed by a tack rag immediately before painting. I am also assuming that you are satisfied with your old sanded paint and there is not rust underneath it. Most old tractors do have rust underneath, even if they have been repainted. If so, it needs to go to bare metal also.
