I plan to use hardener in my paint when I paint my tractor and was wondering if a half-mask respiorator would work? I saw a Hobby-Air for $359, which didn't seem too bad.

The Hobbyair I with the half mask is what I use. I also have a full hood for it but our shop has poor lighting and the hood creates too much glare and shadows so I went back to the half mask.

Note: I made an air mask from a 2 filter mask. close off one side where one filter screws in. on the other side fashion a plate with a fitting that screws into the end of an air hose. buy a lighter air hose than the one used for painting. for the air supply, use an oil-less compressor, (one of those little ones with a motor and pump in a unit). plug it in away from the painting area, preferably outside, or in a window, attach the air hose to it, put on the mask, and go paint. You may have to put a valve in the line to cut down on the air supply. Keep the compressor away from any overspray, as it will stuff it right up your nose! When ready, hang the air hose over your back and around to the mask! Rusty Jones
