Mike, How orange to you consider 2150 to be? I usually use PPG 71310, thought it was too orange. I have never used 2150 except for the quart I recently bought, that I tried to have my dealer match to PPG Omni acrylic urethane. We did modify 71310 slightly, but I really can't tell the difference in parts side by side, they both have a distinct orange tint. In using a brush with 2150 to touch up a few out of the way places I missed with the hardened 71310, it actually looks like it has MORE orange in it than 71310. Since I don't live in the heart of Farmall country, I see very few repainted ones. The few I do see (bought two with fairly new paint jobs done poorly), seem to be a darker red with little or no orange -- I assume they were painted with some tractor store paint, don't know. What do you think 2150 looks like as far as orange, barely visible or obvious? Depending on the light, mine sometimes look more orange than red.

When I painted the chassie of my Farmall C puller with 2150 I thought it looked terrible (Orange!!!), What I have noticed give it a few months it will darken up, but to me it still looks orange, I take it to the pulls and its just as red as everybody else's Farmalls unless they used Q store paint, last summer I painted a IH 720 plow with CaseIH gloss red, They told me that this is the CaseIH Magnum red, well that plow to me looked Orange! looked nothing like our Magnum, I parked my Farmall BN next to the plow and I think the BN looked less orange but the BN's paint is 2 years old, the plow was a month old, My tractors look nice and red in the shop, but take them out in the sun it has a orange tint to it, like you said it depends on the light, I do know the Q store paint was red with no orange to it , A friend of mine painted there Super M and a F-20 with it, I have been wanting to try John Deere's IH red I have been told it looks less orange then 2150, I should of tried it on my 460 I painted last summer but I had some extra 2150 to used up,

I am not at all clear on what 2150 is supposed to look like. But, I'm beginning to think the orange tint is ok. I am currently using a version of PPG Omni 71310 acrylic urethane that I attempted to match to 2150. I painted a C with 71310, it appeared too orange at first, but the color darkened some. A year later I painted a Super H, it is still orange, no visible change as far as I can tell. For my 460, I bought a quart of 2150 and attempted to match 71310 to 2150 by having the PPG dealer change the toners (WAG method). Then I finally decided that 71310 and 2150 were darn near the same color. According to that, then Farmalls are actually orange. I also think it depends on what an individuals eyes see. My wife says "looks red to me". What is Q store paint? I don't think most tractor store paint is correct anyway. I have been told (Frank Stalfire) that unlike cars, paint manufacturers do not get the color from the tractor companies. Someone wants a color matched, the manf or dealer does the best he can, and that's what we get. For example Frank says the 2150/71310 DuPont equivalent, 96766, has no orange toner, PPG 71310 does. So regardless of the correct police, I am thinking that no one really knows, including Valspar that makes IH 2150.

Quality farm & Fleet paint is what I mean by Q store paint, My dad said he doesnt remember Farmall's with that orange tint when they were new, CaseIh said 2150 is the right color for the 706 and newer tractors also, but I would never paint our 826 with 2150, I had a international 303 combine that had excellent original paint on it I waxed up a spot and no orange tint at all , my dad said thats the color he remembers, also had a low hr 1086 , that was allways kept in and there was no orange tint,

Thanks -- I really don't believe anyone knows, not even Case-IH. I don't particularly like 2150 and the equivalent by other companies, but having my own formulation mixed is just a guess. I assume you meant Q store is darker, but I'm not sure they know either. My tractors look worse inside than out, also. As to what people (your dad, me, you, or anyone else) remember, I don't think anyone actually cared until more and more of us began painting our own tractors, then there was more than one choice in the shade of red depending on who makes the paint, and the whole thing becomes a big blur, to me at least. I think the orange or whatever looks different depends on what one's eyes see, perhaps mine are defective. When I was growing up, when the dealer did a complete overhaul, he threw in a paint job. Looked so much better I don't think anyone cared about the shade, although in those days it was pretty close to original, whatever that was.
