I can tell you it is a modified acrylic enamel.
I painted a 127 with it about 5 yrs ago and it turned out beautiful. I was restoring that tractor to resell. The tractors I keep, I use automotive paint. I can't remember what mix ratio I used but I may have had to play around a little to get it to work the way I wanted. You might want to try it on some scrap sheetmetal before painting the tractor to get the mix right. I used martin-senour acrylic enamel reducer and hardener.
I would start with 8 parts paint to 4 parts reducer if you aren't using hardener or 8:4: one part hardener if using hardener. Try posting your question at the IH Registry cub cadet forum. There are a lot of guys on there that use the CC
paint. Just remember, the smoother you get the primer, the better your paint will look. This is more critical with cheaper tractor paints than with automotive paints.

Terminolgy gets confusing. I think you mean an acrylic modified alkyd enamel, much the same or perhaps the same formulation as Case-IH 2150, depending on who makes it. I don't think there is such a thing as a modified acrylic enamel, (correct me if I'm wrong) unless it is one of DuPont's Centari enamel products that is actually called a urethane once hardener is added. My understanding of the acrylic modified paints is that they are alkyd enamels with some acrylic properties, notably UV inhibitors for fade resistance plus others I know nothing about. As Rod said, why don't they put directions on the can or at least tell you where to look, so you don't have to experiment. That's what I like about the more "expensive" paints, the instructions are exact, not that an experienced painter can't modify them, but that an amature does not need to.

Charles,
I was going by memory and got the terminology messed up. I'm not even sure what Acrylic modified alkyd is to be honest. Your explanation makes sense. I would venture a guess that it is made by the same company as the Case-IH paint. I know that CC's oils are made by the same company as Case IH's.

Anyway, if it is a "modified" enamel, it is likely better than the old alkyd enamel and probably is suitable for his purposes, considering that it is inexpensive paint, also provided he gets the paint-reducer combination correct.

Hi David,

I haven't the faintest idea. A can of paint with no instructions is worthless. I'd try to return it for a refund if I could. Even Rustoleum from the hardware store has some basic usage instructions right on the lable. I can't say that I've ever seen any paint that didn't carry the most basic instructions right on the can.
