Jason,

I am going to try some of PPG's Deltron single stage (Concept, DCC) later on this spring when the weather warms up enough. I think you have said previously that you used Concept for some of your AC early persian orange painting. I have read on another forum recently where it was stated that Concept was not available in the early persian shade (#60080) and that it had to be "matched" from an enamel 60080 job. I thought that was unusual since I would expect that you could just get Concept mixed as DCC60080 and be done with it - no other "matching" or anything required. What was your experience? Didn't you get a DCC60080 mix and that was all there was to it?

Thanks,
Rod

Jason,

Thanks for the offer but I am going to try the DCC anyway. I stopped at Robbins in Dover this morning to check things out. New guy at the paint counter. I was first met with "60080 not available in Concept". Next was "get a sample sprayout in MTK and have the computer try for a match in DCC". I then asked him to call PPG because I understood that forumla 60080 was, indeed, available in DCC. He did actually call and confirmed what you said. He is having the formula faxed to him and I will get some tomorrow. It seems that PPG is purging some of the old formulas out of their computer system for "fleet colors", especially in the higher-end product lines, although they still have it listed for the economy OMNI. Deltron single stage (now referred to as Concept) has been around for a long time however, and the formula for 60080 with it was available in the "archives". I don't think he would have taken it upon himself to check further by calling PPG unless there was some indication that it would be worthwhile. So your information was put to good use. I will wind up posting the actual DDC formula for 60080 on my web site later on.

CN,

Yes, I think there is a real possibility that the DCC will not match the MTK perfectly even though they carry the same code number. Different chemicals (even though the basic chemistry class is the same) and different mixing tints in different quantities. I'll find out how close the result is though. I am also curious to find out if it appears more chip resistant than the MTK, although I am not sure how I will determine that.

Rod, you probably know this -- I asked my dealer about Concept, as compared to Omni, when I was having trouble getting what I considered to be the right shade. He told me that the same PPG number mixed in Omni vs Concept may not be the same shade. Particularly if I tried my modified formula I used in Omni, I would have to start over with Concept. But, IMO, unless you want to compare the shades of of Omni and Concept side by side, unless you absolutely have to have the exact shade, I bet you won't notice the difference.

yes I have 60080 mixed in concept, Tim from robbins in exeter mixed it for me 603-772-4830. He had to call and get a formular. I feel that the color is very close to 60080 in omni. It sure seams that it all depends on the jobbers willingness to mess with these small tractor jobs. If you want to come take a look at concept I have my G half painted just let me know I'm not that far away.
