Considering using Nason on my '54 Ferguson TEA20 resto project. Epoxy primer/urethane topcoat. Any concerns, opinions?

Thanks

Sorry the PDS doesn't spell out sanding after 24 hours, but YES do sand if allowed to dry. the PDS does sort of touch on it by saying if sanding is required allow 24 hours. I will alert the product group of the confusion around the PDS

Can't find any data that directs the epoxy primer be scuffed and reapplied if a long period of time passes before top-coating. Notice the need for this requirement comes up alot on other posts. I am hoping to be able to sandblast and epoxy prime all the small stuff and castings, and then topcoat, lets say a month after, without scuffing/reapplying primer. Can I do this with the Nason line? Like I said, can't find direction to the contrary.

Thankyou for your time.

Hi Chuck,

Good point. The Nason epoxy tech sheet doesn't address the issue of time windows at all. The premium Dupont epoxy tech sheet mentions only that sanding is required after 24 hours - no reference to any re-application of another coat of epoxy. This is unlike the two PPG epoxies (economy OMNI and premium DPLF) that specifically recommend sanding and re-application after the appropriate time window. I haven't used either of the DuPont epoxies but have both of the PPG ones. I think why you hear a lot about time windows and re-application in the forum is because a lot here use the PPG products. Frank Stalfire is a DuPont factory rep who posts here every once in a while. Perhaps if he sees this thread, he will provide some input. Lacking additional information, I'd go by the Nason tech sheet but I would recommend at least a scuffing of the epoxy prior to applying your topcoat, as you should do with any cured film prior to adding anything on top of it. At least that way you would get the benefit of a better mechanical bond, if not a chemical one.

You need a supplied air respirator for the iso's in the hardener. Epoxy on everything, sandable surfacer over the epoxy on the sheet metal if you want the best finish. No surfacer needed on the cast iron parts -- engine, trans, rear end, etc. Nor on the axles, wheels, etc. If you have not done this before, get the P-sheets from your supplier or DuPonts web site -- do exactly what they say.
