I have painted several tractors with non- isocyanate paint but they fade with age Had an idea!!! Dangerous? How about painting the cast iron part of the tractor with a brush using isocyanate paint and take sheet metal to a professional painter? Will you still need an out air supply or would cartilage filter work for brush work?

I think you'll find that most acrylic and urethane
enamels don't work too well with a brush. Maybe if you added some retarder or really slow reducer.
My experience has been that the paint dries on the brush before you get it from the can to what you are painting.

Hardener does not necessarily prevent fading. It may appear to fade less because it had more gloss to begin with. Fading occurs with low quality paint, ie tractor store and some tractor dealer paint, mainly because it is alkyd enamel. Alkyd enamel is the same paint used on cars in the 30's? even into the 80's with certain manufacturers -- it fades because of lack of UV protection. Although still available, as far as current automotive and new tractor paint, it has gone the way of the dinosaur. UV protection is added to paints such as acrylic enamel and acrylic urethane, not to the hardener, far as I know. There is a "newer" alkyd enamel, called acrylic modified alkyd enamel that has UV inhibitors, I do not know how it compares in fade resistance to the urethanes. I occasionally use hardened paint wearing only a charcoal mask to touch up areas I have missed, but only for short periods of time. I don't think I would use one to paint a whole tractor though.

I meant to say touching up with a brush using hardened paint wearing a charcoal mask. Tried it once with a touch up gun and charcoal mask --- NEVER again!
