I am restoring a farmall and need to get the correct paint codes and what kinds of paint and primers I should use. I am looking for the original red and white paint codes for a 1958 Farmall 240. I am also interested in finding out what color the dash or instrument panel was. The tractor was re painted and the dash is white now, however I found a sales flyer and the dash is black. If anyone knows what the dash should be please let me know.

I plan to use a epoxy primer, with Dupont centari paints, unless someone has better suggestions

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRICATED

Thanks Russ, Cape Neddick, Maine

I am not sure of the dash color, and I don't think the exact colors are available anymore. You might ask on the Farmall forum this site, or ask for Ken Updike on the Red Power Magazine Forum. I have a 46o with the same problem. I believe Ken said it was some shade of gray on the early models and "satin black" on the later ones. I think I am going to find some version of satin black, not saying the 240 is the same, although it was built in the same time frame.

Hi Russ,

Not far away huh? I'm over here in Farmington, NH. CNKS will probably provide some input on the colors. I'll just throw in my two cents by saying I think epoxy primer is the best choice you could make, provided it is a two-part automotive epoxy and not a rattle can make-believe product. Centari is arguably also the best, especially if you are trying to avoid isos and use the Ultra 1K version of field mixes for it - that is, unless cost is no object. If you are very particular about color shades, buy only the minimum amount of color until you are satisfied with the result - no matter what any code indicates. Modern automotive paints do not always match the old tractor colors that well.
