I want to paint my '66 ford 5000 blue. Anyone have experience with the empire blue vs. some of the other "equipment/implement" ford blues. The reason I ask is my local paint shop stocks ford diesel blue ($40), but it looks a bit darker/muddier than some of the tractor pictures I've seen posted- they look brilliant blue! The shop can mix up some paint but it's a wee bit on the spendy side ($150).

I'd order some empire blue if I knew it wasn't too dark or muddy. Just hoping someone has experience with with painting ford tractors and their opinion of the various blue paints out there.

Thanks for any help.

Empire blue is the actual name for Ford tractor blue. Pictures can sometimes be deceiving. I think "Ford diesel blue" is actually Ford Motor Co. blue for engines, not tractor blue.

I have used the Martin Seynor ford Diesel blue and it is not a good match to the OEM New Holland blue.

Well, I just ordered a quart of the empire blue. I'll try it out on an old lg145 garden tractor I'm prettying up. If it looks good, it'll be my choice for the 5000.
