I have another question about supplied air systems. I work at a parts store and was talking to our outside salesman about supplied air systems today. He said that there is no filter that will remove isocynates. I have been reading all the discussion lately on supplied air systems, including the homemade ones discussed below. My question is, how do you know the supplied air compressor isn't sucking the fumes in and pumping them right to you? Do you put them outside or in another room or what? I'm a little concerned and want to have something set up before I do another paint job. The last 2 paint jobs I did, I got pretty sick-apparently from the isos.

Put it outside, with the wind blowing toward it. If there is no wind, put it as far away from you as you can. The first time I used one, I set it in the window of my shop. The wind was not from that direction, and the fumes swirled around to the intake and into my hood. A year later I used a touch up gun for just a few squirts on places I missed, using only a charcoal mask -- right on the verge of getting sick -- luckily it passed. I now have a paint booth, I put it in the same window that the air comes in when my fans are on -- no problem.
