Yesterday the two day weather forecast was for a couple of nice sunny spring days with temperatures in the high 60's to near 70F. Unusually nice for this time of year so I figured I would take advantage and paint some more parts for my AC-B. I started late yesterday sandblasting the parts and planned on finishing up the sandblasting this morning, prime with epoxy this afternoon and finish paint tomorrow. Well, those best laid plans of mice and men...this morning the new forecast was for nice today but cooler with a high chance of rain tomorrow. That new england weather! Sooo...I then decided to hurry up and finish sandblasting, prime this morning and paint this afternoon. Then another problem. The wind had picked up to a brisk pace and promised to continue througout the day. Since I paint outside and the weather was definitely not cooperating with my plans, I decided to use some Picklex20 and defer priming and painting for another day some time in the future. Normally, I like to prime immediately after sandblasting but this time it was pretty obvious that if I primed today, I would not be able to paint tomorrow. The longer term forecast did not look promising either and I wanted to avoid having to go beyond the 3 day topcoat window of my epoxy primer and wind up having to scuff some odd shaped pieces and reapply at a later date. The parts are such that no surfacer will be used and I will topcoat directly on the epoxy. Picklex20 is a phosphoric acid-based product that is ideal for this situation. Although it will remove minor flash rust, I do not use it for that purpose. Instead, I use it to preserve freshly sandblasted parts from rusting again until such unknown time that I can prime and paint them. It works pretty darned good for that purpose. It is recommended specifically for sandblasted surfaces by the manufacturer, does not require a water-wash after application and is easy to apply. For anyone interested in a tech sheet on the product, it's here. Such are the joys of painting ouside in New England. My sandblasted and Picklexed parts are shown below:

Glad to hear about that product. I am in the same boat as you. I paint outside. I live in BC where the painting season is SHORT! It snowed here this morning..... unusual for April.

Glad I'm painting inside, now if I could keep from running the dang paint I'd be happier.

Nice lookin' parts! Rod, bring 'em on down here to north Florida--sunny, mid 80s all week. When you're done, you can clean up and paint a few of mine! LOL
