I'm working on restoring the lights on my Farmall B. Is there a paint I can use on the light reflector between the lens and the bulb assembly? The old ones are scratched and a bit rusty. Silver of aluminum colored paint wouldn't be bright enough, it almost needs like a chrome or mirror type finish. Any ideas? I know you can buy them new, but i'm trying to save costs where possible, and keep as many parts as original as I can.
Thanks
Thank

Brand new reflectors are available for about $10 each and look, feel, and are made of the same material as the original. You will never know they are not the original.

What about reflective Mylar? It's thin and is so close to a mirror it's amazing. Most hobby shops that carry model airplane parts should have it. Sure cheaper than resilvering!

Something that works better than aluminum foil is chrome tape. It is available from auto parts stores that sell customizing parts. It is actually aluminum but looks like chrome. It has a clear protective film that you peel off after you apply it. The clear film protects it from scratching till you get it rubbed down into place. It streches and conforms well to curves.
I did this exact thing with the lights on my farmall BN. You could also use aluminum duct tape
and polish it with aluminum polish, but it won't be as reflective as the chrome stuff.

Read a British cycle article on the tinfoil trick exactly as described by ol' guy.Short of replating thats as good as it gets.Spraypaint companies electroplate the silver can plastic lids but its only paint inside the can.I always thought that was deceitful of them.

In discussing this problem (I have the same concern with a '49 "A" JD) with a friend that restores old cars, he tells me the best deal is to carefully install aluminum foil as the reflector. I've done it with mine and it checks out o.k., but I have not completed the total restoration yet. It's worth a try. I used a contact adhesive to hold the foil. Time will tell if it will work. Good luck!
