I have a pair a fenders and the Rust has eaten through in some spots. I was wondering how to repair them in order to sand blast them and paint them?

I strip mine by electrolytic alkaline dip stripping. We have a company that does it in my area and I like it alot(Chicago area). It gets all the rust and old paint off without being nearly as harsh as blasting. Wherever there is rot, cut it out with a dremel or other cutoff wheel and buttweld in new sheetmetal, grind it flush, Neutralize the acids formed by welding with a mild phorphoric acid solution like PPG DX579 metal prep, rinse, dry with compressed air and primer with a good 2 part epoxy primer. I prefer to tack the patches in with a Mig and Then weld it up with a TIG, but you could use the MIG.

If the rust-throughs are fairly minor holes (e.g. pinholes up to about 1/4 inch in diameter), not closely spaced and with a reasonable thickness of remaining material surrounding them, they can be brazed shut. Or even soft-soldered shut. If the situation is more extensive than that, with tender material all around, then grinding out to completely sound metal and either welding, brazing or soldering (depending on strength requirements) sheet steel patches in place is the best way to proceed. I understand that special structural adhesives are currently finding favor in the autobody repair world for attaching repair patches but I have no personal experience with such materials.
