I"ve been looking for a good paint that could be sprayed with a normal respirator for the occasional tractor or implement paint job. I found this Dupont Tufcoat. Anyone know anything about it? I have added a link to the spec. sheet. Comments appreciated.

my local ppg rep told me about a non -iso paint a few years ago .he did not have any at that time . but there have been 2 component non -iso paints around for a long time .2 in the ppg line come to mind ncp -250 2k primer ,and dc1100 clear . we painted some parts at work with a sherwin willams 2k epoxy paint for marine applications .it shined well and is holding up good.sherwin willams also makes a non iso system for use inside water tanks . so unless this is diffrent chemically it is nothing new . also a person might get exposed to chemicals worse than iso"s ??? with this system ,or as bad . just my opinion and some thoughts

The NCP 250 looks like a possibility. I don't find the DC 1100, I might have missed it. I think the link includes all PPG products--I don't see it.

I am aware of the NCP-250 stuff. I looked into it a couple of years ago but found it too pricey for my liking. Since I already have supplied-air, why pay a premium - especially when I would be up against isos in the topcoat. I am not aware of the DC-1100. I recall that DuPont did market a non-iso clear some years ago but I don't think it took hold. I haven't seen any reference to it lately - but I haven't searched for it either.

Tommy,

You are correct. I had never heard of the DC1100 but I did check an older (1994) PPG catalog I have and there it is. I don't know why PPG doesn't seem to list it on their refinish website. It is listed in the catalog as being an "NCT" product, along with the NCP-250 non-iso surfacer, also an NCT product. NCT seems to be one of many PPG trademarks. I have no idea what it stands for - never did. The DC1100 is noted as a clear to be used with DBU, the first one of now two basecoats in the Deltron line. The current DBU tech sheet doesn't show the DC1100 as a recommended clear among the several PPG clears listed for the product. I wonder if PPG has stopped marketing it. The NCP-250 seems to still be a viable product however. If the DC1100 is still reasonably available it would be another of the few options for those w/o supplied-air; i.e. use the DBU basecoat and clear with the DC1100. That would be a pricey alternative to an unhardened enamel but I think it would be a far better performing product. Sure, ask your supplier when you get a chance. I wouldn't be that interested personally but others here w/o supplied-air might be.

i called my supplier this morning ,and it is discontinued .im not surprised because most painters i know in the business are drug addicts ,alcholics .... ect. they are not concerned with their health . that is the #1 reason i quit working in the body repair / refinish industry . 95 % of the people i could not stand ,there are some normal folks like me in the industry ,but i was the exception not the rule . i had a dream for 10 years to work full time as a painter when i finally got there it was miserable . had job offers to some big shops/dealerships but the people there were the same kind of folks .went back to the trucking company (where everyone is post employment tested ,then random tested after that)

Hi Daniel,

I have never tried it but it looks like a promising product for those w/o supplied air. Sounds like a fairly recent development from DuPont. My concern would be local availablility of the color I wanted and price. New, potentially high demand technology is apt to also carry a high price tag.

No, but I would like to know what it is -- perhaps Frank Stalfire will have some comments.
