Hello. I have a few small rust holes in the fenders of my "64 Caddy and I used something similar to JB Weld to fill them in and then sanded it smooth. It really came out nice. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this and what became of it. Thanks--Marvin

As CNKs said.. I've used jb weld as a filler for areas i didn't feel bondo would hold up.

Also.. On areas where it was not practical to weld up holes in sheet metal.. like small pin holes covering a small section of metal that was otherwise sturctually intact and not pitted, I have used jbweld, smeared on a piece of aluminum flashing, and then applied to the back of that sheet metal, thus extruding the jbweld thru the holes. Once cured.. just sand down the heads of the extrusion, and you have a decent pinhole repair.. that won't push out like bondo will.

I notice a lot of the pitted sheet metal is right around bolts. (See Rod NH fender.) I wonder if normal body fillers would just crack when the bolt is tightened? Perhaps if you are careful to only fill the pits and sand it back to expose the high points?

I haven't used it to fill holes. But I will typically use it to fill hard to fix dents, and places where I don't consider durable enough for bondo -- example the transmission cover on my Farmall Super H, that was damaged by battery acid. I usually put a thin layer of bondo over it, as JB Weld is hard to sand smooth. No problems that I am aware of.

I have used JB Weld several times in stress points that I thought bondo would crack on with success.
