Just wondering if you need to mix hardener with the paint for all the coats you put on? In other words can I apply the first coat without hardener and then use hardener in the last coat?

Thanks,
Bobg

no you cant ,the unhardned paint cures for 30 days ,the hardned paint will cure quicker .it will either lift or solvent pop.

The other replies are right on. The reason I'm even responding to this post is pure curiosity...Why would you even want to do this? Has someone suggested to you that this would prevent a problem or make it turn out better or maybe be less costly? I'm baffled?

No, I will not be doing this. This was a thought that popped into my head one night. I don't have a fresh air respirator so I'm not going to be using any hardener in my paint.

No. The solvents in the paint without hardener will probably lift the hardened paint in the last coat. They all have to either have hardener or not.

Not to mention (possibly) radically different cure times for the non hardened coats, vs the hardened coat.

Yes, the length of time to cure along with the different types of cure is what causes the potential problem.
