I got home from work and went out and tackled my batwing again. Had enough oil and grease on it that it could have been a KFC franchise.

Keep in mind that I have washed and pressure washed this thing on 2 other days.

This am before work I used a can of engine degreaser and sprayed the remaining heavy parts.. which was pretty much pin and bushing couplings. When i got home, i pressure washed using simple green. Then i sprayed it down with purple stuff and while that set I mixed up a bucket of plain old soap and water, and got the long scrub brush out and hit the entire machine.. To my dismay.. a few slicks still survived.

Another pressure wash with attention tot he proplem areas, and used simple green as a aid... then another scrub brushing with a little simple green in the water. This finally did it... no sheens.. no slicks... It dried to a nice non oily faded paint... probably hasn't been like that in 5 years. After it was clean I say a few hinge 'stops' that were beat up as well as a front brush guard bracket that was nearly broke so i burnt a few rods to correct those problems.

Now all I need is a dry day, and an afternoon off to hit it with some rust control primer.

( i'm so tired of washing and scrubbing... this was easilly the dirtiest piece of equipment I've ever worked on... )

Good luck, It is always rewarding and worth the effort to spray the paint when all that prep work has been done.

Oven cleaner is lye, at least the stronger versions -- NaOH.

I've got tomorrow morning off, and hope to get the primer on. And perhaps saturday am for the paint?

Have you decided on the type of paint? I know you spoke of somthing from TSC but also thought you mentioned acrylic enamel. How much paint do you think it will take?

Deffinately using the BPS paint from TSC. I'm thinking of about 5 quarts paint...

What type of primer are you going to use? Maybe you can post some pictures of the progress

It's a valspar primer, grey, rust control ( etching? ).

I've already primed and painted the underside of the decks, and the primer went on nice.. took paint good. Bottom looks like a million bucks... figures that no one will ever see it. If the top side of the deck turns out near as good, I'll be happy.

I already got my new decals and am now just waiting for time off work and weather..
