I am currently caulking or taping every possible seam, nook and crannie where dirt, etc might enter my paint booth. The caulk is silicone based. With all the bad effects it can have on new paint, is there any possibility that air flow over and around "cured" silicone will cause problems? If so I can tape over it with foil tape.

When i worked in the auto industry(Ford)we could not use any type of silicone in our air compressor, gaskets, seals, etc.Said that it would react with the paint. We were spraying mostly bc/cc.

If you're serious about sealing up your booth, pitch that silicone and use a polyurethane sealant like 3M 5200 or Sikaflex. (Available from marine hardware stores.) Just don't use it on anything you intend to take apart.

In my experiences,I would have to say a really confident NO. It is not considered a "free" silicone like powder or spray. You won't need to cover it,but you can for peace of mind given all the problems you've had with contamination.Your call. You'll get this licked yet!

Thanks, I really didn't think so. I think my problem may be the two double doors that I made and can't get sealed perfectly. Going to remove them, wall it off and just have a walk-in door. The booth is not big enough for a whole tractor anyway. Any parts I can't get through a 3 ft wide door will get painted outside the booth. Originally I just had the front open, no different than the small booths (except larger) you can buy for $2000 or so. Started getting contamination, made the doors, they didn't work worth a flip due to my lousy carpenter skills. Going to try to do it the "right" way this time, tired of messing with it.
