I have heard that oven cleaner removes paint.

Is that true? How good does it work?

Thanks

Is oven cleaner cheaper then paint remover? What advantage is there in one over the other?

I just finished trying it on the air cleaner of my 420c and it worked pretty good. I applied it thoroughly in the evening and washed it off in AM. most of the paint was removed. I re-applied to get the balance and washed again in 4-5 hours. Most was gone and finished with a wire wheel in a portable grinder. Now I am wondering if I have to treat in any way before applying primer. Advice please.

If I recall, the instructions on Easy Off used to say to wash the oven down with a vinegar & water solution. I ain't askin the wife cause she might get ideas.
Oven cleaner is all basicly lye which is caustic as he11. If you don't want to go with vinegar, beer is an excellent neutralizer of caustic. I learned that the first day working in the brewery, where they cleaned bottles with caustic, and had caustic running all over in leaking pipes. One of the first things I was told was to drown the caustic with beer if I got splashed with any. Personally, on a cost basis alone, I'd use vinegar.

I wonder, can you drink the beer first before you wash the surfaces with it?

Well, I dunno. When it was splained to me, I was workin in the brewery, and there was no lack of beer for either purpose.
Ain't drank a beer since I worked there, might tell you something.

Had to add my bit! Sorry fellas!
I've used some cheap oven cleaner (caustic based) to clean an engine block and pan recently. It takes off everything, grease, paint the whole bit. I kept stirring it up with a brush carefully and hosed it of after about 15 mins. Got to be careful not to get it on you or breathe the vapour! Toxic stuff!
I guess you could apply it and drink your beer while it does the work as a safety precaution!

Cheers
