I am restoring a Ford 8 N and i was wondering on the tail pipe and muffler should it be high heat paint or would regular paint work? Thanks for any info.

If you really want it to turn out purfect and you have the time? Have all of you exhaust peices (manifold muffler pipes) sand blasted than take them to a powder coater and tell them to ceramic coat them. It lasts forever and will never rust. I"ve done it on my last three restorations, and they are all still like the day I installed them. It costs me $65 and is worth every penny.
I hope this helps, The high temp paint also works, but it just doesn"t last.

Hi Ray,

Regular paint will not last due the high temperatures involved. If you wish to paint, I'd use a high temp paint meant for such an application. I've used Eastwood's high temp silver paint for the exhaust pipe on my AC-B. It doesn't provide sufficient rust protection however and rust will begin showing through after a year or two outside. On my B, it's easy enough to refresh by just pulling off the pipe and applying a couple of more coats. If your tractor is mostly undercover, it probably would last a lot longer.

Some people use high temp paint on the exhaust manifold, I've never heard of painting a muffler or tail pipe. New ones are galvanized or better, I would leave it alone.
