okay I'm back thinking about a pressure pot setup to replace my gravity feed for when I'm doing bigger/upside down jobs. I have a line on a 2 qt pot and a devilbiss hvlp gun that needs hoses. Rod you said that you use about 6ft of 3/8 line on your fluid feed. Are you happy with this? What would you use for line? The parker ...(can't remeber the number) that you recommened to me for air line. Which I must say I am very happy with.

Jason,

I don't use the 3/8" Parker hose between the cup and gun. The fluid and air hoses are different there. They are different in materials, sizes and pressure ratings. The fluid hose is 1/4" ID with 3/8" NPS female swivel fittings. The air hose is 5/16" ID with 1/4" NPS female swivel fittings. All have the tapered seat to properly mate with the fittings on both the pot and the gun. I think the fluid hose has a special liner. I use the standard DeVilbiss set of hoses, part number KB-4006. It's about 6 ft long which is entirely adequate. I think it's easier just to get a set of hoses all set up for that specific purpose than trying to put something together with bulk hose. Plus the fittings are special. I purchased a replacement hose set at Robbins a couple years ago but have not used it yet. The set is not siamesed like an oxy/acet hose set is but it should be. I tape mine together intermittently to serve the same purpose.

If I were to make my own up out of bulk hose, I wouldn't even consider 3/8" for that service - air or fluid. For one thing it's not necessary, especially for the fluid hose. The other is that I would want keep the bulk down as much as possible - makes for easier maneuverability of the gun.

I don't think you can beat that Parker 831 hose for general purpose air service. Pricey but worth it.
