I recently finished paining my '49 JD "A", and when putting the flywheel cover back on, my helper got some of the adhesive used to stick the molding along the edge of the flywheel on the newly painted cover. What is an acceptable solvent to loosen and remove the adhesive?? Thanks for the help

This may sound out of the ballpark, but get some Letricshave! This is that nasty green stuff that my father used to throw on his face before he shaved. This stuff will cut through road tar, bug guts, 30 year old cooked on engine oil and grease. He says it"ll give a closer shave too. Try it- this stuff is amaizing. Good luck, Mike

Hi,

You can try 3M's Adhesive, Tar and Wax Remover. You probably can find it at places like Home Depot. Certainly at most auto parts stores. An 8 oz. can goes a long way. I've had one for about 15 years and most of it is still left. Also makes a great way (the best IMO) of removing the stubborn adhesive residue you now get after you scrape off price tags. I'd be a little cautious with fresh paint however. Note the reference to cured in the advertising. Try it somewhere it doesn't show first. You may have to wait until the paint fully cures if there is any discoloration, loss of gloss or other obvious damage.
