OK here it goes. I've got a JD6620 that has very good sheet metal all around but the lower sides with the augers and returns and shieves and pulleys is a bit worn, stained, and beat up. I want to paint the lower half to help it match the upper sheet metal.

I do NOT want to sand all of this paint off - nor put oven cleaner all over the bottom with all the belts and bearings and shieves.

So how do I prep this project in order for the primer and paint to stick?

I plan on using NAPA's Crossfire Paint and Primer. I will use the 15240Reducer with their 15200 Primer. Also will use their Crossfire Urethane Enamel 6022 JD Green with there ch253 hardner and ch234 reducer - I have fresh air system and mask and will have to paint outside since this is too large for shop work.

Any one have some great ideas how to prep this beast so my primer and paint will stick...thanks for all your help.

Scuff or sand as best you can. Unfortunately the location of what you want to paint makes no difference as to the amount of prep needed. You will highlight all chipped places where you have not removed the paint, but it should look better than it does now, and, if you are using it, it will happen again -- probably sooner than it did the first time. If it does not matter to you it is ok, but the new paint is not going to match the old.
