ok we are getting a new truck, 97 mack rd 688 the aluminum fuel tanks are not polished up to my par, (i cant see my reflection) any ideas of how and what to do to make them sparkle. Another question, the truck was previously lettered with vynl lettering, the dealer took this all off but i can still make out the faint outline of the letters if i look real close any ideas on cleaning this up, will i have to wet sand and repaint the whole cab and if so is this a job a normal shadetree mechanic such as myslef can do and still achieve proffesional results or should i just sand them as much as i can and have a qualified painter clean it up, i dont see spending all this money on a truck and having it come out looking like a 16 year old kid painted it up with a can of rustoleum.

hey digger. if the marks from the letters are only barely visible, you can take some microfine wet/dry sandpaper (1200 grit) and lightly sand the area and then buff with power polisher. if that takes them off and the paint is shiny to your standards, do the same to the rest of the truck. what this does is get rid of some of the "orange peel" in the paint and lets the light reflect more. it'll take lots of elbow grease and patience but it'll pay off. good luck.
