Rod, Following your link, I "color sanded" the amateur paint job on my ford 3000, then rubbed it out by hand using 3M Perfect-it III Finishing Glaze, and while someone would call the police if I took it to a show, for a working tractor it looks pretty durn good. In fact it looks new, even to my critical eye. Thanks for the tip on color sanding. I didn't know what it was, but I won't forget it now.

Hugh, great! I am glad it helped you out. Post a picture of your tractor here if possible...I am sure everyone enjoys seeing things like that. I know that I do.

One note of caution though for others that may be considering the color sanding process: As I recall...it’s been quite a few years since I looked into it...color sanding is applicable for enamels ONLY if they are used with the hardener. If hardener is not used the paint film is not sufficiently hard enough for buffing or rubbing to bring the gloss back after it is lost by the color sanding. So if an alkyd or acrylic enamel is used without hardener, forget color sanding...it could ruin your hard work. I don’t think the article in the link mentioned this and I could be wrong since I have never actually tried it on a straight enamel. If anyone else has experience to the contrary, please jump in with your thoughts.
