Finally got the loader painted, assembled and installed on the tractor. It still needs the decals. Some of you may remember I bought this Bush Hog 2400 QT loader back in the spring and decided to use it as practice before painting the tractor. Used PPG Omni Epoxy primer and MAE paint w/o the hardner since I don't have the fresh air suply equipment. The paint has cured pretty well by now but was very soft for several weeks. I believe this is due to me applying it too thick. I think the color is a little too dark. Don't have the color code in front of me but I'll post it later if anyone is interested. Overall I'm pretty satisfied. Thanks for the advice I got from this board.

Rick,

It looks fine to me. I'm glad you are pleased with the result. You can now begin work on the rest of the tractor knowing what to expect along the way. The loader was a good place to start and get a little experience and confidence under your belt. What spray gun did you wind up with? I got an inexpensive ($80) one from Home Depot a while back just to spray some POR15 since I didn't want to put that through my good gun. I was surprised how well the gun sprayed. I found it slow since it was an hvlp gun and I am used to a significantly faster, non hvlp arrangement. But it seemed to atomize well and I used it for the rest of the job, including the topcoat - after I took the darned strainer out of it and threw that away! If I slow down with the thing to a speed more appropriate for the design, it does as good a job as my DeVilbiss. I may use it as my primary full sized gun in the future, although I don't particularly care for the paint weight in my gun hand. It certainly is easier to clean though.
