Has anyone used or have knowledge of the product below? The below is a listing from ebay.

Rust Converter simply wire brush or power wash the area to be treated apply, let dry and the rust converter converts rust into a black oxide that you can paint over. This stuff is supposed to be 5 times stronger than the stuff used in rhino liner bed liners. Sells for $129 a gallon from the supplier. (Supplier"s website Link . There is no need for sandblasting and other cleaning, this product chemically converts the rust, it goes on white, and dries to a black color that has a poly feel to it.

Most of the shop owners around here use "Ospho" at about 20 $ a gallon. Stronger dilutions are not worth the price differences as the rust extender gets down in to pits and converts it easily. I have used it on all my work and use it under primers to make sure all the rust is gone. Dont spend that kind of money. Two applications of ospho are all you will ever need.

I am a big fan of rust converter. not for restoration work but just as a tool to stop rust at a chip or scratch where the rust is starting to got under the paint and I know that I'm not going to get to doing a proper repair any time soon.Helps keep equipment looking good a lot longer.

Never heard of it -- but there are no magic products. Rust converters have their place, mainly on old rusted implements where it is next to impossible to remove the rust without sandblasting, and where you don't have to have the best finish in the world. The products on the market do vary in effectiveness, but they all do about the same thing. I very much prefer mechanical removal (sanding, wire brushing) of rust on tractors, and I prefer it over sandblasting on parts that I can't remove. I use rust converters only on inaccessible areas, or on rust pits I can't get to the bottom of. Only my opinion, others have theirs, no argument.

For the most part I agree with the previous post, no arguement here. I've owned my own body shop and managed others most of my life and do use rust convertors. One brand name is "Extend" (there are several brands) which you can buy in a spray can which I have tested and had good luck with. They do work much better then doing nothing and not as good as actually removing the rust of course. You do want to remove all the rust you can with your favorite abrasive wheather it be sandpaper, a wire brush, or something powered. Follow the directions very closly, use light coats. I too use them in rust pits and hard to reach areas. I don't like sandblasting at all, it always gets where you don't want it, warps sheet metal, and always seem to hide somewhere only to be found when your spray gun blows it out in an up until then perfect paint job. Not a cure-all but a helpful product in the right situation.
