I have a John Deere 345 lawn tractor with a plastic hood with a couple of 12" cracks where I fell against it. How can I repair this? I thought of plastering bondo on the inside over the cracks, or maybe trying epoxy in the cracks. Any ideas?

your hood is probably made from smc plastic, sheet molded compound. i did a repair on my little deere L 110 hydro after i got tangled up in a tree in the woods. the repair product i used is made by wurth. it is called replast plastic repair. it is a two part compound. it runs about $30.00 a tube. sandable in 20 minutes. you can use a backing screen for large crack repair. check you local body shop, they can probably set you up with some, or even apply it for you. here are photos of the stuff

Just sand the inside of the cracks about an inch or better yet two inches on either side of the crack and put a layer of fiberglass cloth on it (With resin of course) try to find epoxy if you can but usually polyester resin will be ok. It will be stronger than original. You can find the stuff at Lowes, Home Depot or Ace Hardware or if near a boat store they carry the best stuff.

You first need to find out exactly which type plastic it is made of. Some need to be plastic "welded" , some hot glued , some can be fiberglassed etc etc etc. Go to a local reputable DEALERSHIP body shop and they can tell you how to tell which you have. If it's poly-carbonate like a lot of snowmobile hoods were , then fiberglass will NOT adhere to it now matter how you rough it up. I think you will find that the plastic you have can be "welded' together on the back side with a soldering iron and then V it out on the outside and fill with 2-part epoxy or jb-weld. Then smooth it off with sandpaper and use regular body filler to finish it off. Prime and paint. (soldering iron is poor mans plastic welder) (body shop may have the welder and do it for you )
