Just purchased a Oliver 77 RC. I'm doing a ground up restortion on it. I hear Tisco paint is a good paint to use. There are two diffrent greens listed on this site. A med. green which is a darker green, and a meadow green. I was wondering wear I could see some paint chips of these colors. Does anyone have any pictures of a tractor painted with this paint? I think it would be a risk painting it if I don't even know what the colors look like. I just don't want to go through all that work and not be happy with it. I'm counting on you guys!!!

Erik

If you are doing an honest ground-up restoration, by all means use the best paint you can get. With all of the hours of work you are putting in on this project, you will be cheating yourself with cheap paint. That cheap paint is for painting junk. If it is an alkyd or modified alkyd paint, it will fade in the sunlight and the shine will dull out quickly. The best bet is to use an Acrylic Enamel or Acrylic Urethane. Most require hardner but some, you don't have to use it. You won't be sorry and the extra hundred dollars will soon be forgotten.

Just went to the Oliver forum and see you havn't posted your question there yet. You might do that. You probably will get some first hand experiences on the codes and/or shades to use. Also , since you are going to all the work to do a "ground up" restoration , you may want to explore the different upgrades in paint technologies. Low cost paint is made with low cost pigments and resins. Some don't take kindly to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Some will go dull and still others will change color hues (reds will turn pink, greens to blue or turquoise, yellows to cream etc.) Not trying to scare you , but you sound like a guy who does his research first and hard work second. List your requirements and what you expect of your paint job and then choose a paint system that will meet those requirements. Then find the right color in that system. If Oliver Tisco paint will meet your requirements now and 5 yrs from now , then by all means use it. Good Luck with your Oliver.

You need to ask on the Oliver forum. As to the paint itself, it is alkyd enamel (the brand is not as important as the type of paint), meaning it will fade if exposed to the elements. And, getting any premixed paint to match the original color is a crap shoot. Best to decide what the "correct" color is and get a higher quality paint mixed by a reputable paint supplier. If you are doing a ground up restoration, even $300/gallon paint is a minor part of your cost.
