I am getting ready to paint my tractor and I was wondering about painting Carb. Will paint stay on?Should I put some special kind of primer on it?

I painted the carb on my Cub with a couple coats of black ZeroRust, brushed on with a fine nylon brush. Nice satin finish, smoothed out well. Haven"t had any catastrophic gas leaks to test how it holds up, but it has looked good for a year of normal use.

I guess first you need to research whatever it is you are working on to see if in fact the carb WAS painted from the factory. Some were. If it was not , then check www.eastwood.com for "specialty coatings". They have several types of "natural metal" coatings for carbs, manifolds etc. If it is to be painted , there are two ways. Disassemble it,bead blast it,rebuild it (by the book)epoxy prime, acrylic urethane catylized paint and then assemble. No fuel in it for a week. The other way , which I think is what you are wanting to do, is paint a carb already on the tractor. Stiff parts cleaning brush and spray can of break-clean or carb cleaner. Spray and brush until clean. Dry it off quickly , paint it with whatever you are painting the rest of the tractor with and figure it will probably hold up about as good as the factory stuff did. There's not much in between. Restore it or clean and paint it!

I would never paint a carb when painting a tractor only paint that what was painted by the factory.Nothing looks worse then paint on carbs ,magneto's v-belts and you get the picture.
