Hey all,

I just have a general question about painting over primer. I"m working on a Ford 8n, and gradually getting it back in good mechanical shape, then plan to paint it in the Spring. If you use primer that comes in spray cans, like Rustoleum brand primer, is it okay to paint acrylic enamel (automotive) paint over this? Or is this a no-no, and you should only use alkyd enamel paints like TSC, Rustoleum, Tisco, and Hershel Adams?

I"ve been cleaning/stripping/sanding one part at a time on this tractor doing the work when I have time, therefore it has been easier to use spray can primer. However, when I paint the whole tractor I"m planning on using a sprayer once the surface is prepped and am debating on paint such as PPG automotive quality, or to use lower cost paint. Thanks for the input!
Scott

I painted a Farmall H using BPS/Tractor Supply paint with Hardener. It came out great, and relatively inexpensive. I also used BPS primer, and I had no problems. My guess would be that you shouldn't have any problems, but I would consider getting a good sealer and spraying that before you paint

Thanks for the reply Preacher. I didn"t use sealer on my last paint job. Would you have any suggestions on where I might buy some and what brand? Thanks!
