I've got a 1086 I just got. Have to reset the wheels anyway so I think if I can get some time I'm going to repaint the tractor. I have a couple of sandblasters and sandblast a lot of things some times things I shouldn't. Sandblasting at least some of the tractor would really speed things up. For you guys that have sandblasted a tractor how much can you sandblast and where do you get into trouble.

Thanks, greg

Greg; Some food for thought. I have a Ford 850. I used a wire wheel on the transmission, differential and some small parts I didn't want to sandblast. The wire wheel did a great job of removing old paint, about four layers. As was stated in the other posts, the parts I could remove I sandblasted outside and away from the tractor. Some of the sheetmetal I had done by a professional and was relatively inexpensive. If you do the whole tractor expect to spend some time cleaning the sand out.

Here's something I learned today. The finer quality sand does a better job and I was able to have more control with air pressure and delivery rate. Hope this helps.

Greg, I read your post above before this one. Forget what I said. The 1066 was IH 2150/PPG 71310/DuPont 96766. But, the current 2150 is NOT the same color that came on your tractor, as somewhere along the line it picked up an orange tint -- I have used 71310 and it has some orange in it -- I had my dealer change the formulation slightly to get rid of some of the orange, don't think I quite went far enough on my 460. I have heard, but not seen, that 96766 does not have orange in it -- paint colors are a crap shoot.

As to sandblasting, I don't sandblast anything that I can't remove. You can tape over bearings, etc, but sand has a habit of getting into every place it it shouldn't. Others claim to have had no problems, not worth the risk to me.

In my opinion that is the quickest way to ruin a tractor. Never sand blast any part that you can`t get at least 25 foot away from the tractor
