Hi, I have a 1942 9N, it is painted in 8N colours and has been converted to 12 volt by a previous owner who also cut a triangular chunk out of the hood to get the v-belt to fit the alternator. I have made up my mind to clean up the rough cut in the hood to be a little more rounded and smoothed off as well as replace the existing alternator with a chromed one. I am going to paint the tractor a metallic silver gray with glossy black accents (seat, steering wheel, levers, pedals & exhaust) to get it a little closer to it’s original colours. It will be pretty when it’s finished. Now my question is, do you think I would get laughed out of the park if I took it to the fair to show with the other tractors? Or should I just keep it at home for my own enjoyment? Thanks.

Hey guys; Take heart, I have a '49 Earthmaster that was supposed to have been painted blue for a parade and wound up BURPLE! It is quite a sight! Gene

I personally don't think your paint scheme is any less original than someone who uses a modern two-part high-gloss urethane (but factory colors) on a 60 year old tractor. I'd say take it to the show, have fun, be proud of your workmanship and don't worry about what the correct police have to say.

But then, I'm not much of a purist, I have a lavender colored Farmall B.
