Bought a 10 ft disk, looking to paint it, starting with the frame, as it still is in use, so no sense in painting blades. It is rusty, however it is not flaky, bubbled or pitted. How well would priming and painting it work as it is? What kinds of paints work well as rust inhibitors? Any suggestions are useful. Thanks

i agree with bruster. i half-a** cleaned up my little disc about 6 years ago, sprayed it with rustoleum primer then hit it with a couple coats of rustoleum paint. i really didn't care much how it looked as long as it stopped the rust, but i was pretty happy even with the way it looked when i was done. it's holding the paint well, and i use it alot. i guess if i was "restoring" it, i'd do something different, but this worked out fine for a working disc.

If you are you USING your disk, my suggestion would be to Power / wire brush it off well. A good rust preventing primer & paint (Rustolium) will keep protecting for a long time. I did this to a second hand disk, a 1950 8' JD disk, it's faded but not rusting away! Good luck
