Thanks for the info! I refinished cars and trucks, etc. since 1951! I always used a 2 filter mask when applying the paint, especially the enamel! We had a great spray booth that took out the overspray very quickly. And, a heated baking oven, gas heated! The paint was synthetic enamel, which, with a baking liquid added, made a great finish! Then along came a great new paint, acrylic enamel, which was very good and easy to use. It also needed a hardener added to make it dry harder! Now, before AE, the hazard warnings on plain syn. enamel cans warned us to use a filtered paint mask, to guard against overspray! Then, the paint mfgrs introduced hardener for AE paints!, with the same warnings! Some years later, after they came out with two-stage and three stage paint, they then warned us about the bad chemicals in the Acrylic enamels and hardeners, and told us the old 2 filter masks shouldn't be used! Tney then told us about air-supplied masks, protective clothing, on and on! So, for about 10 years or so, us painters didn't know what damage that stuff could do to our lungs! But, i found out! Made me allergic to that new stuff, so bad i had to retire from the trade! I got so bad, if i went to the local gas station, across the street from an auto body shop, and they were painting, the paint coming from the exhaust fans would send me into a breathing spasm, big time! Would take me an hour to recover from the effects! That problem has worn off some, although i can't stay very long in that type of atmosphere! So, if the instructions say a lot of precautions--heed them! Rusty Jones
