Had to patch a hole in the hood of my 350u, that was put in recklessly after the original underslung exhaust was removed. I have patched the hole by welding in a piece of sheetmetal. There is a little warping, but it "sunk" in relation to the rest of the hood. Was thinking of buying a kit from Eastwood and am curious if any of you DIYer have had good luck? I have used bondo, but am reluctant to use in this area, even though the thickest it would be is 1/4". Thanks for your help.

I did some on a hood and just used acid core solder and a propane torch just like on my radiators and fuel tanks.

I used it back in early '70,s. Then fiberglass fillers "evolved" into the quallity product they are today. I evolved with it and wouldn't go back.Leading and the process it takes to get it right and make it adhere correctly is very fussy and if it ain't right will fall out or let rust start between it and base metal. They used it "back then" cause it was the best they had. We have better now.I would use an epoxy , such as JB Weld , before I would use lead.

I have a "leading spray gun" that I got from my grandfather and was wondering if any old -timers may have used these before and if there is any value. It is a SIOUX Metal Spray Gun that you plug into a 120 volt outlet and also connect to an air hose from compressor. I assume you warm it up and put the lead in and then spray it onto the prepped metal of the vehicle and then sand down (must have been great for the lungs!) This proccess would prevent having to use BONDO!

i think what you are refering to is leading, you take some form of stick lead and melt it on patch then spread it with a flat type of wood spreader that i think had some form of beeswax on it to stop lead from sticking.not sure been a long time since i see it done this way. ever hear of a ''lead sled''
