My father is about to paint the rear wheels for a Ford 8N. We have seen many Ford pictures where the wheels are all grey, and several where the outer edge is silver.

The silver does look nice, but we are not sure whether it is authentic or not.

Can anybody tell me what the original color is?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike..... ..at the 8N factory, the tire rims were plated "cadmium", a bluish-silverish color that you see on bolts at the hardware store. (many use "alumnium" color paint for "cad-look") The wheel-disk was painted same Ford-grey sheetmetal color. The brake-nuts were NOT PAINTED as they are "cadmium" plated.

Because of the time (and expense) involved, many quick & dirty spray-painters paint everything the same color. (thats OK by me)

The sphincterly challenged soon find out that dis-assembling the Ford rear-rims for painting is an exercise in rusty-rimbolt destruction. While the OEM rimbolt (p/n 350719-S8) specs: 5/8-18 x 2.87" roundhead bolt ($5, cheap), many just use the more commonly available 5/8-11 x 3" carragebolt, cad or zink plate, your choice..... ..Dell, the 20/20 painter (looks good at 20ft or 20mph)
