I've seen some of the 66 series front wheels painted different colors. From the factory the rim was red and the hub red correct? I notice some guys go with cream colored rims with red hubs and others go with a silver outline on the rim with a red center and red hub, almost mirroring the back wheel color scheme. Just wanted to know which is correct and also what the opinion was on how much liberty to take? Personally I think the cream rim with red hub looks pretty sharp? Opinions?

It's not "correct" but I like the red hub, white rim and silver bolts along with white wheel weights on the back.

"Correct" as in how it came from the factory would be red hubs, red rims, and plated lug bolts.

I personally don't like white rims unless the rear cast centers will be white also (like on a 1206). I saw a 1466 black stripe that had red front hubs and silver rims and didn't like that either.

But, go with whatever you like best. You are the one that will be looking at it the most.

Most IH's in this area still wear their original work clothes, and they all got red rims unless the farmer had a yellow or white or green or black spare in the shed.

Personally, I like a contrasting rim color bolted to the hub, Like Oliver's white rim/ green hub, or even JD green hub/yellow rim.

IMHO it just looks better....

I don't know the scheme on the 966. But when IH went from cast fronts to stamped? steel the wheel and rim were the same color, either red or white, depending on the model. I believe that includes the cap over the end of the axle. How much liberty to take is up to you.
