I have a just bought an old tractor restored and I want to add a few attachments like a PTO cover and a PTO pump.Well the PTO cover and pump is in great shape that I bought but must be cleaned up.I was thinking about cleaning it with lacquer thinner than painted it.Do you guys have any recommendations. It does not have to be sand blasted. They are not that bad.Looking for ideas. Also I am touching up with John Deere Green from the dealer how well with this paint hold up and how well will it match. The Green that is on there is Classic Green????Thanks

Tried to color match on My 300 Farmall. Paint was in good shape. Had a top paint dealer color match to the tractor. Not a great idea. I ended up reshooting the entire tractor. And of course then the new paint is not the correct color. No way it seems to match the fade out of paint.

color match is a crap shoot in reply to riggsjr, 03-14-2007 07:29:10
Color match is a crap shoot at the best of times. Soap and water then solvent works fine. Scuff it for adhesion. Laquer might lift the old finish on edges.
