Thats to bad about the lifting put it happeneds. First I stay with products that are made from a major paint companys ppg dupont etc. Your problem the primer was not thick enough and the sovents in the yellow had lots of time to eat away at the subsurface. When ever you paint know what the paint or the thinner is going to do to what ever. I paint with ppg and I never have problems. Also you should not mix two different brands of paint not knowing what it might do. If you think you might have problems paint a test panel to see what it might or might not do. Also what was you temperature at the place where it was painted? The warmer the better. Cold conditions also lead to lifting. With those conditions the solvents stay and stay on the surface.Make sure you paint drys as fast as possible. If I think I might have problems I have my infrared heater ready to go if needed. Just some thoughts.

Though no guarantee. I've found that if the 1st top coat is light and allowed to dry it will soak up excess solvents from the heavy 2nd and 3rd coat. Allow plenty of drying time between coats. Assuming paints are compatible.

Mike, It sounds to me like you have an issue where the last paint that you applied has not had time to fully cure. The solvents in the paint you just laid down have just went to war with the previous paint you applied. Usually this does not become a problem when covering over primer, but if your yellow paint came in contact with the red you will have issues if the red has not had the proper cure time. The bad news is that the time you have invested is lost. I would suggest, sanding the lifted area you want to shoot after masking off the red. Check you paint directions for cure time (usually 72 hours) After doing the above use a cheaper brand epoxy sealer (omni, shop line, eg.) and re-shoot the yellow. You can use this site for a reference. Link It should help you out with all your issues now and in the future. You will find other that guys will jump in with there opinions. Seems like you have some time to wait it out, get the rest of the responses and do your thing. Good luck, ORS
