Got my first tractor and it is decient paint wise. There is a few places that paint is chipped and rust is strting underneath. I did not buy it for show, bought it for work. I do want to take care of it though.

Can I just wire brush the spots ad hit with rustolium of a close color? Can I do that with the impliments also?

As jr150hpv implied it won't match. It works for him because he uses the same paint. Yours may look better, it may not, depending on how close the paint matches. I wouldn't worry too much about the rust. Surface rust will take a long time to do much damage. The serious rust is that that starts on the inside and works it's way out. That usually does not happen on a tractor, because the underside is usually open, unlike a car. I think your choices are to either leave it alone or paint the whole thing. Anyway, if you do what you suggest on the sheet metal, use a foam brush. If you mask the surrounding area off and use spray paint, you will see right to the line where the masking was, if you don't mask you will have overspray where you don't want it.

sure but it will look like hell. what i have been doing and so far so good i sand the area with 250 sand paper then i hit it with a rust killer then i clean it with brake clean then a sandable primer sand it with 400 grit then prime again then i hit it wth 600 grit then i paint the spot. I've been using everything from my TSC and it looks fine and the rust is stopped. Just what has worked for me and kinda cheap. You'll get all sorts of ways just let this post run . See ya JR.

TSC is Tractor Supply Corp., a chain store dealing with tractor and farm-related products. It's (I believe) the "new" version of the old Central Tractor stores, and in many areas TSC has taken over Farm & Fleet stores as well. Depending on where you're located, they may cater more to suburban lawn care, pet owners, and the "horsie set" than a pure farm store. However, they usually have a fair selection of vintage tractor parts, at least for the more common brands--JD and Farmall letter series, and Ford 8/9/2N's for instance.
