Have a 51 H. Painted it 4 wks ago with ppg 71310. Sratched the gas tank and grille a little putting the hood on. Put masking tape on the edge before removing it and pulled the paint off in a couple spots. Since I have to touch it up I block sanded the grille with 1000 to clean it up. Looks good but very smooth. Too smooth to repaint?? Should I scuff it with 400 first? Wipe it with reducer? What should I do before spraying it again? Thanks for info.

i'd scuff it with the red scotchbrite pad, #07447, then use a final wash or prep sol type cleaner, then a tack rag. if you have never blended before, reshoot the tank and the grille. you can tape off the tank at the seam around the midde of the tank and just shoot the upper part. if you spot it you will need a blending solvent to spot the tank and grille in.

Thanks for the info. Not sure what the prep sol cleaner is but I assume they'll know at the paint store. Jim

pre cleano, prep sol, final wash, different names for basically the same product. it is a petroleum based fluid, it removes wax, grease fingerprints ect as the final cleaner just before you paint. your paint supply store will have some type of the product. wear rubber gloves, puor some on a clean rag, scrub the surface, keep turning the rag, the solvent will flash off and dry pretty quick. then tack rag it and shoot it....good to go!!!!
