The scotch pad worked great. Got rid of a lot of bumps and pits in the paint. I reshot the entire tank and grille. Any ideas on how to keep from scratching them when I put the hood on? Also; can I use the scotch pad before buffing or stick with 1500 sand paper? Thanks

Like circus said, dont use a scotch pad. Go with the 1500 or higher grade paper.

use masking tapearound the edges when you put the sheetmetal on, use a regular autobody type tape so you dont pull any of the paint off. you can build up a few layers, then set the sheetmetal in place, then remove the tape. for added security, you can put some duct tape over the top of the masking tape.

I used regular masking tape before (after I had already scratched it). Pulled some of the paint off. I have some of the blue tape now. I think it's supposed to be ok. I'll try some on the under side first.

Don,t use scotch pad prior to polishing. The scratches are too deep.
